retro space opera poster
The “movie poster” for the space opera project from my book Extreme Worlds. (The title logo is omitted from the artwork in the book to avoid language localization issues in other countries.)

advance copy of Extreme Worlds
I received an advance copy of my forthcoming book “Extreme Worlds: The Complete Guide to Drawing and Painting Sci-Fi Art” from the publisher today. The graphic design and layout are terrific, I am really pleased with the work the editors and designers did on this.
The book should be out in October here in the US and a month or so after in the UK (and the rest of the world? Not sure how all that stuff works…).

my next book: Extreme Worlds
Hey peeps
I sent in the final revisions to my next art how-to book a while ago, and the publisher recently sent me a shot of the front and back cover art. This one will be a little more demo-oriented than the previous book on fantasy characters. The book will be out in late October/early November and is available for pre-order at most online book sellers. Hope you enjoy it!

planetary federation outpost
From the space opera project that I’ve had on the back and middle burners for a while now; this scene was constructed using some SketchUp, some photocollage, and some regular 2D photoshoppery.
…and the raw SketchUp output:

Something I’m working on for the next book project. This is a model created in Sketchup and rendered in Podium, with some post effects in Photoshop CS4. Click to embiggen it.

space opera: Cygnus Lake, part 2
This is a full shot of the character concept from a few posts ago. I think actually it will be an interesting story point if this character is part machine and part human. We’ll see how that plays out. I’m on the third draft of the script, and some characters have disappeared, a few have been melded into one, and now I’m juggling scenes on index cards. This “writing” stuff is hard. Non fiction stuff I have no problem with, but telling an interesting story? Shoo.
